Too often the needs of our adult learners – those without a basic High school credential, low literacy skills or simply under-skilled – need flexibility, resources and reinforcement to be successful learners to reach their goals. OTAN is an organization that promotes OER as a key resource for administrators, teachers and learners to help in all these areas. This session is meant to provide you with reasons to include adult learners (as defined above) that may benefit from open resources. Research shows that when Mom is educated and goal centered, she will pass these skills to her children. The level of education the parent holds has a direct influence on how well children learn in our K12 system. Examples of how OER helped learners meet and exceed their learning goals will provide a foundation to encourage all educational agencies to partner or work with their local adult education providers.

OTAN pursues the development, distribution, advocacy and awareness of resources for the adult education field in California. We are a WIOA funded project that specifically lists teaching and learning with OER for adult education.

We are looking to represent a critical component of the educational system - adult learners (as defined in our description) that can in turn support the success of K12 learners as well.
